Prom Queen

Ashley

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Legwarmes, spandex and wayfare sunglasses
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Barbies and She-Ra Princess of Power!
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: Last year my boyfriend and I attended 80s Prom, but it wasn't without the typical prom night drama. The evening before the big night, we got into a huge fight and broke up. As a girl, breaking up right before prom is tragic!! Of course I had my outfit all picked out and ready to go! The afternoon of Prom, we talked briefly on the phone and decided to still go, despite the break up. I was hesitant to believe we could still have a good time. That night, when I was all dressed, he knocked on my door. When I opened it up, he was standing there, dressed, in all his 80s glory, holding a boom box over his head playing Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes". My very own Say Anything moment! We kissed and made up and headed to prom where we had the best night. We danced all night, played PacMan and we fell in love all over again! We even became finalists in the the 80s outfit contest. Also worth mentioning, Ashley wore Doc Marten boots under her high school prom dress for her big night back in Detroit.

Molly

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Socks over jeans/pegged jeans
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Atari
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: My husband and I attended both of my 80s proms together. After dinner of my first prom, and before the actual prom, the minute we walked out of the restaurant, he vomited (a combination of nerves and eating too much). He managed to keep his white tux clean, however, using an umpire-like move each time he vomited (you're safe!).

Tina

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Slap on bracelets- yeah!
2. Favorite 80's Toy: My little ponies
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: I was quite the ugly duckling in high school- I have the yearbooks to prove it! I was an awkward girl but strived so hard to wear the right clothes and look cute. However, like those Jenny Jones shows from back in the day, I went from Not to Hot!- I am now a local represented model and former Miss Virginia International 2008. I know how to rock a crown! Being a former nerd is fabulous- it allowed me to develop non socially cool hobbies and interests and while I was far from Prom Queen then I would love to be one now! Thanks! (my photo is my cover shot I did for On Tap a while back)

Patty

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: ripped jeans
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Pacman
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: I didn't go to my own prom in '96 & I love the 80s!I was born in '78, came to the US in '79 & grew up in the 80s as a carefree & happy kid...dancing to the 80s music, watching the 80s movies & falling in love with the decade and the US all at the same time.So the 80s has a special place in my heart.

Tammy

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Side Pony Tail with Metallic Scrunchie
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Cabbage Patch Dolls- their butts smelled like baby power!
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: The night of prom my girlfriends and I decided to go "No Undies" for a bit of fun and spice. Needless to say, when "Doing the Butt" came on, we "did the butt" by flashing our "Full Moons" at the teachers. That was a short prom night as we were kindly escorted out of the buliding. It was so worth it though! Who says a full moon isn't romantic?

Miranda

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Belly Pouches around the waist for easy access of whatever you need, anytime you need it!
2. Favorite 80's Toy: My Buddy Doll (the doll for boys, but just too cute not to have one as a girl as well!)
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: For my senior prom, my mom and dad decided to chaperone our dance, without my knowledge or permission. You can imagine my emarrassment and surprise to show up with my date at the dance and find my parents greeting my peers and classmates at the door. The entire night was filled with my mom following me like a shadow, taking photos for my Senior Scrapbook, and my dad, "cutting in" to have "this dance" with me. Prom to me was more of a family event then a date night. As much as I hated it then, I now have a scrapbook full of Prom Night Photos of me, my date, my mom and dad!

Sara

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: neon
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Barbie
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: I never got to go .. my parents wouldn't let me :( It is my only chance...seriously.

Shealyn

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Leggings with scrunchie colored socks and converse
2. Favorite 80's Toy: puffalumps
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: My friend forgot her tickets to the senior prom and had to call her mom to come bring them to her because they wouldn't let her in.. The rest of the night she spent watching her best friend and his girlfriend fight, and listened to her boyfriend complain about how he was ready to go home. Needless to say no one got any that night. Shea for Prom Queen!

Vesna

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Frankie Say Relax Oversized TShirts
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Atari
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: I agreed to be someone's date just to go to the prom, even though he was a total nerd and pretty homely. Anyway he said his chauffeur would pick me up in front of my house night of the prom. I get all my friends and family together to wait. He shows up in a beat up, 1970s Chevy Nova driven by one of his high school buddies (his chauffeur). It was embarrasing. We had to push aside the empty McD's bags and beer cans to get in. Nevertheless I ended up going home with a different guy that evening - and got a ride home in a limo!

Ren

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Large Bow on Chest and Butt!
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Pogo Ball and Popples Stuffed Animals
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: I attended prom with my brother because my date caught the chicken pox the week before prom! Needless to say, there was NO goodnight kiss at the end of the date!

Jennifer

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Leg Warmers
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Cabbage Patch Dolls
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: During my senior prom- our limo got lost- REALLY lost. It took about an hour to get back on track- meanwhile we missed our dinner reservation and almost missed prom. Not only that- when the limo couldn't even find the place and we had to run through

Amy

1. Favorite 80's Fashion:Acid washed dress with neon accessories
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Smurfs Figurines (which she still has!)
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: Amy and I hit most of the 80s parties together in the DC area. She is my best friend and she deserves to win Prom Queen at this 80's Prom! Amy and I went to the 80s Prom at the Black Cat last year and, even though I was a guy dressed as an 80's mess of a Prom Queen, I ended up winning Prom Queen. I let her wear my fluorescent crown with cheap jewels glued on it, but it wasn't the same. :) Amy Tubbs for 80s Prom Queen! She will wear it proudly and will represent!!

Prom King

Brendan

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Piano Key Neck Ties
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Kinex toys or Anything He-Man
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: Last year my girlfriend and I attended 80s Prom, but it wasn't without the typical prom night drama. The evening before the big night, we got into a huge fight and broke up. The afternoon of Prom, we talked briefly on the phone and decided to still go, despite the break up. I then surprised her at her door dressed in 80s holding a boom box over my head playing Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes." We kissed and made up and headed to prom where we had the best night. We danced all night, played PacMan and we fell in love all over again! We even became finalists in the the 80s outfit contest. We will be returning to Prom this year, without the drama! Also worth mentioning, Brendan dressed up as Zoro for his high school prom in Atlanta...naturally he was voted class clown.

Robert

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Izod shirt, collar up
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Star Wars action figures
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: My wife and I attended three 80s proms together. For her senior prom, we rented a white stretch limo. I dedicated the song, "The Time of My Life" to her and that's been our song ever since. We even played it at our wedding nine years later.

Jason

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Neon colors and acid wash
2. Favorite 80's Toy: ATARI 2600 & all of the superb games that go with it: Donkey Kong, Pitfall, Asteroids, & Ms PacMan!
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: I went to a Prom Party at the Black Cat last year dressed in drag as an 80's Prom chic and ended up winning their Prom Queen contest! It was priceless! I've also won two other 80's costume contests. One at Recessions in DC at an 80s Night Party and once when I dressed as Boy George for The Reflex concert (80s cover band). My friend Amy and I didn't even know there was going to be a costume contest...dressing up like 80's dorks is just how we roll! :) haha We also dress up in our 80's best when we go to see The LegWarmers (80s cover band) perform as well. I definitely go over the top when it comes to dressing up in 80's and making a complete 80's fool of myself on the dance floor too. People either really love the fact that I act like a Super Freak or they are scared of it. Either way, I bring the 80's Full Throttle and always have a blast! Jason Steltenpohl for Prom King! TRUST ME! You will not be sorry and I will wear the title proudly! ;)

Shawn

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Peg Legs
2. Favorite 80's Toy: thundercats
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: I never went to my high school prom, so my girlfriend is nominating me.

Matt

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Your mom
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Atari
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: A girl asked ME to go to the prom. I thought I was special, but found out later she had just broken up with her boyfriend and was planning on asking "one of the losers in our class" to go just to get back at him. I also nearly puked at dinner because I’d been too nervous to eat all day, then dumped ice in my lap accidentally.

Dan

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: hot pink leotards
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Pacman
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: I was psyched to go to the junior prom with my girlfriend, but she ended up dumping me a few days earlier for one of the guys in our class. I already had dinner and limo plans with friends that I couldn't get out of, so I just decided to bring a blow-up doll instead. Literally. Although I just missed the running for Prom King, my "date" ended up winning the Queen crown, and the actual Prom King, who turned out to be the date of my ex-girlfriend, had to have the "King-Queen" dance with my doll on the dancefloor. It turned out to be a pretty fantastic night.

Ken

1. Favorite 80's Fashion: Shirts with big letters (RELAX!)
2. Favorite 80's Toy: Marble Madness arcade game
3. Best Prom story/Why they deserve to win: I broke up with my high school sweetheart a few weeks before my prom in 1983. Because we had mutual friends no one wanted to go near me with a ten foot pole...except an adjunct teacher who came to school once a week and who lived around the corner from me. I decided on a whim to ask her to come with me and she accepted. We made quite an impact at the prom, however being as I attended a private Christian high school, there are no pictures of us in the year book! To make matters worse, she got drunk, was all over me in the limo, and proceeded to stalk me for weeks until my poor mother had to tell her to go away. Robbed of my own prom, I deserve to win this one!
